Human connection isn't just essential; in Disney and Pixar's latest, it's elemental.

Of course, in Elemental, that connection isn't exactly human. The movie is set in Element City and centers on the unlikely friendship between a fire woman, Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis), and a water guy named Wade (Mamoudou Athie), with a voice cast that also includes Ronnie Del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O'Hara, Mason Wertheimer and Joe Pera.

"It's a comedy filled with heart," says producer Denise Ream, who previously collaborated with director Peter Sohn on The Good Dinosaur. "It's a story about relationships — between Fire and Water, between parents and their kids, and between all of us and our neighbors who might not look like us. It's part comedy, part family journey, and part culture clash."

Alongside the trailer, Disney announced that the film will be accompanied by an all-new animated short, Carl's Date. Set after the events of the Oscar-winning Up, the short sees Carl Fredricksen (voiced by the late, great Ed Asner) reluctantly agreeing to go on a date. But when he gets a case of the jitters, his talking dog, Dug (writer-director Bob Peterson), steps in to save the date.

Elemental and Carl's Date arrive in theaters on June 16. Watch the trailer for the former below.
