The Euphoria to scream queen pipeline continues to be a bloody blessing: After Sydney Sweeney gave [SPOILER] to the [SPOILER] in this year's "nunsploitation" flick Immaculate, it's Hunter Schafer's turn to take the lead in a splatter film of her own: The twisty horror trip, Cuckoo, also starring Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick.

Here is the official synopsis: Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen (Schafter) leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father's boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen's mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn't seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.

"I'm giving you the chance to be of great use in our quest for preservation," Stevens' Mr. König intones in the trailer. "Consider yourself lucky."

Cuckoo hails from German writer-director Tilman Singer (Luz) and was shot on 35mm. The movie debuted during the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival before screening at SXSW. Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell, and Ben Rimmer are the producers.

Schafer made her film debut in last year's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and is poised to have a breakout year on the big screen: Following Cuckoo, she will star in Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness, alongside an ensemble cast led by Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and Willem Dafoe, and David Lowery's Mother Mary, opposite Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel.

Cuckoo hits theaters on Aug. 9. Watch the first trailer below.
